Brief Bio
Dr. Jun-Feng Wang is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. His research focuses on oxidative damage and neuroinflammtion in chronic stress, depression and Alzheimer’s disease. His research is currently supported by grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Previously Dr. Wang held academic appointments at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia.
Research Directions
Dr. Jun-Feng Wang’s research program is to understand the role of oxidative stress and neuroinflammation in chronic stress, depression and Alzheimer’s disease. His laboratory focuses on determining how oxidative protein modification and NLRP3 inflammasome activation affect brain synaptic functions, establishing whether thioredoxin antioxidant system inhibits chronic stress-induced oxidative stress and neuroinflammation, and improving chronic stress-induced depression and cognitive dysfunction.
Research techniques employed in his work include cell culturing, real time-PCR, DNA cloning, cell transfection, immunoblotting analysis, co-immunoprecipitation, immunohistochemistry, gene knock down and animal behavioural tests, among others.
